Focus on the User: Joseph Gamble
Welcome to our first installment of Focus on the User where we plan to showcase people using ImagePrint in their work.
Today we are proud to present Joseph Gamble and his exhibit “Farm Team”. I was personally excited when I learned about this exhibit not only because of its proximity to our office and my hopes of being able to attend it but also for the subject matter. It doesn’t seem that long ago (even though it was) that I resembled one of these hopeful young players. These images capture the other part of the game that few get see.
All images were printed on an Epson 4000 on Moab Entrada Natural Finish using ImagePrint.
Here’s what Joseph had to say about the exhibit:
About the Project
Since minor league baseball began in Savannah, Georgia in 1904, it has functioned as a proving ground for young men hoping to advance to professional baseball’s top tier. This quest to move up from short season ball and independent leagues through single A to triple A and on up to the major league is one of drama, sacrifice and struggle. My photographs of the Savannah Sand Gnats document the pitfalls and triumphs of the 2004 season, the 100th anniversary of minor league baseball in Savannah,Georgia.
By traveling on the bus and following the team through the rituals of daily summer league life, I was able to portray a side of minor league ball that spectators rarely witness: prayers in the dug out on Sunday, clubhouse card games during a rain delay, dominoes games on the team bus and the training room routine before each game. The resulting visual chronicle honors the hopeful determination of the minor league team and documents their attendant hardships in pursuit of the highest level of sport.
Exhibition of Farm Team: A Season in the Minors opened on Thursday, April 14, 2011 with a reception from 5-7 p.m. at the Pasco-Hernando Community College Alric C.T. Pottberg Library Art Gallery. The exhibition will run through May 12, 2011. The exhibition was originally held April 6 to September 9, 2005 at Savannah’s Historic William L. Grayson Stadium. An opening reception in the stadium concourse was held on April 29, 2005.
